I have been looking at various smokers and stumbled upon the Stump’s Smokers web site. Several of their smokers have gravity feed for charcoal. It looks like you can load it up with enough charcoal for an entire cooking session. Since I am a set and forget kind of guy, the automated charcoal freed has a great deal of appeal. I like their model called "The Stretch" but would prefer it to be mounted on a small trailer that I can pull behind my car. I have seen another brand of smoker called "Superior" that looks similar to the Stump's with gravity feed.

My questions are:
1) Have you had any problems with gravity feed or any other problems with the Stump's smokers?
2) Can you use lump charcoal with the gravity feed?
3) Do you recommend any other brands of smokers for the "set and forget" kind of guy?

It's not technically a set and forget, but I don't have to do anything to the WSM.

traeger makes set and forget type pits. I love mine, the biggest thing is to watch that the hopper keeps pulling the pellets down equally, no big deal really. They make pull behinds as well. Although they do need an electrical source, I think an inverter will be fine.
