I usually don't inject when just cooking for myself (but I have). Mostly because I'm lazy and always get a good finished product anyway.
If I want to impress someone (friends or judges), or I just want more flavor, or a more complex flavor in the meat.... I will inject.

For home use and catering I never inject. For competitions I always inject, the product I use has a reasonable amount of MSG in it. At a competition the Judges are asked if they have any allergies to food products including MSG, I don't chance it on customers. I always order non-injected meats for comps and catering.

As Bob noted he would leave the salt out of the injection if the butt are enhanced I would cut back on rub also if is a salty rub.
