Pappy from Southern Illinois (St Louis area)
Found this site through a thread that Big Ron had posted. Saw the link a hear I am.
I like the pics & mods this site has. Easy to get around. A lot of information. So I signed up.
It all started whan I bought a Char-Broil Silver offset smoker off of craigslist for $50. I lowered the vent pipe to the grate, added a plate to force the heat & smoke under a 1/4" thick convection plate my son made with a plazma cutter. Added (4) 7" wheels, 2 themometers (lowered to grate level), 1200 degree paint, new cedar shelf, tool hooks, charcoal basket, oak handles, SS nuts & bolts. Looks good enough to put in the living room.
I'm building my 1st. UDS. My son is building a vertival smoker out of a 80 gallon compressor tank. I got him hooked too!

Hey welcome Pappy. Looks like you got it going on there. Mighty fine looking pit and load of wood. Got a fella at work who is an old S. Illinois refugee. He claims to be a Salugi fan. You ever hear of a Salugi?

No "Salugi" in this neck of the woods. I give up. What is it?

Well I think its a dawg mascot of a college up there in your neck of the woods. It looks sorta like a Husky.

Re: Pappy from Southern Illinois (St Louis area)
Welcome.
It's Southern Illinois University Salukis. There some kind of dog. I got my undergrad degree at University of Illinois. Our mascot was Chief Illiniwek of the Fighting Illini. But he is no longer politically correct. I don't know what the mascot is now.

There are 2 SIU's
1 in Edwardsville (SIUE). They are the Cougars. At one time they had a real cougar.
2 in Carbondale (SIUC). I don't know what they have for a mascot.

Re: Pappy from Southern Illinois (St Louis area)
Hey folks..think you got the start of a rhyming song here. I hear it going something like this. Set to the music of that old mo town song where her Man wouldnt be Coming back:
Chief Illiniwek..
He won't be coming back...
Cuz he was political incorrect..
Tell me whut you think.
