Welcome to the forum! There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here, and also we have BigWheel from your area. His Spellcheck is set to Texas so you should get along great.
As for the burger patties, try making them with the center thinner than the edge by about 2:1. Also start them on a hotter part then on the flip move them to a not quite as hot part such as indirect.

Welcome, try searing them over direct heat, then move them to indirect heat to finish them off.

Is there anything I need to add to the meat to aid in the process?

Aide in the process of cooking, not really. Aide in the process of tasting, yeah whatever you desire. I normally add some garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and a little sea salt and pepper.

Hey welcome neighbor. We hangs sorta in the near far far NE quadrant. Think your getting some mighty good advice here. Not much to add..smash em as flat as you want and dig knuckles into the middle to make it have a depression. That helps. Some issues depend on the meat. Regular old cheap hamburger meat can draw up a bunch because it disappears as grease. The high dollar lean stuff dont draw up much at all but can dry out and turn to rubber. 80/20 Chuck is usually the best bet for splitting the difference. I also dont like to cook burgers over crazy high heat. Med high works for me. Cant think of adding anything to the meat would help much..but there a million strategies out there to add stuff. Dont be no stranger.

Rut row..just detected a slab saver..er I mean a Fireman around this place. They take cooking and eating very serious. lol. Thats all I can say about that..for right now anyway. I have been threatening to open up a school to teach them how to park the big shiney trucks without plugging up all the traffic in 14 counties. This could be a good marketing device to get them enrolled. I am going to check with the CPA about this. Thanks.

You can always count on fireman to take that parking spot at the grocery store. Love and live with them I guess.
