Hello From Northern California
Hi Ya'll,
Just wanted to quickly introduce myself and my team. I am a part of Starvin Marvin's BBQ Team out of San Francisco, CA. We cook on 2 18" WSMs and a Weber Kettle. In the near future will have a 22.5" WSM as well. We are entering our rookie season in the CBBQA circuit and can't wait to start cooking 4 categories! We took the backyard route last summer in 4 competitions and caught the bug.
I personally have been a huge fan and serial listener of the BBQ Central show for years. I think I have the first set of round-tables memorized and definitely have all the commercials down!
Hope to see you around...
Scott Johnston

Re: Hello From Northern California
Welcome Scott, sounds like you have an exciting season ahead of you. I checked out your FB pictures and it looks like you already have a good start. I use the podcasts of the BBQC Show as traveling music and like you said .. I could do all the commercials from memory. I own a BBQ Guru and don't know why, must be subliminal Again welcome and I'll be anxious to see some pictures from your comps.

Nick - Thanks! Best avatar ever?
Buzz - Yeah, we took notes on both sets of round tables to teach ourselves how to cook competition style rather than backyard. We don't own any pit temp control device yet, still doing research. What Guru Model do you have? Like it?
Lew - Thanks!

I have a Nano Q and a Cyber Q II, but may opt for a Stoker if I had it to do over. I am a tech geek wannabe and use Macintosh computers and the Stoker will interface much easier than the Guru. As a stand alone unit any of the Gurus will do a good job I'm sure.

Re: Hello From Northern California
I'm leaning stoker as well. I've heard great things from trusted sources and love the idea of it serving up a web page with times & temps as we are currently recording all that information manually for every cook. I'll give you a heads up/review if we end up going in that direction.

Tri-Tip - Hope to see you out there sometime. We're still finalizing our summer schedules, but we may end up in So Cal once or twice this year!

Welcome aboard Scott. Love the bay area, I have cousins that live in Stinson and I need to make it up there soon.
