Les bought a rather large package of Polish sausage over the weekend. They look like long hot dogs. We cooked some over an open fire on Saturday night and IMO, they were awful! Way too salty! So, I am planning on cooking them somehow tonight inside either stovetop or in the oven. Please share any ways to cook them that will cut the salt and taste great! I am open to cooking with beer, never have before but will do it!

I have potatoes, onions, red and green bell peppers, and pasta on hand. I don't have any cabbage so recipes with that are out for tonight!

TIA!!

well cut em in half and soaking em a little...you'll lose flavor but some salt too. Then cook em and serve with mac and cheese! ummm!
Maybe you can use less salt in the mac and cheese.

Do you mean soak them in the beer? or in water? :)

Sorry, I'm just lost! I don't eat a lot of sausage so don't know a lot about cooking them!

You can either boil in water and then grill or..In a crockpot layer sauerkraut, then the sausage sliced in to 3in pieces, 3 apples cored, peeled and sliced into wedges, the rest of the can of saukraut then add 1cup of brown sugar and a cup of apple juice...cook till the sausgage is tender...

I know....I love these type of peasent recipes...few ing, simple to make but damn good...and it reminds me of my grandparents.
Let us know what you decided to do and how it worked out for you.

And oh boy, does that recipe look tasty!

Unfortunately, I don't have the kraut on hand and can't run to the store today. The disadvantages of living over 10 miles from the nearest grocery store!

Looks like I'll probably end up doing the water soak and then cooking them!

Thanks guys! Of course, I'm always open to any other suggestions and will most likely end up cooking Dog's recipe at a later date when I have the ingredients on hand!

You're welcome Puffy!

Here's what I ended up with for supper tonight. Let's just call it Allie's Mess. LOL

Polish sausage, soaked in water, drained and cut in bite size pieces
cubed potatoes
diced onions and peppers
1 can of Bush's country style baked beans

Cook the sausage, onions, peppers, and potatoes in a large skillet until potatoes are soft. Then pour in undrained baked beans. Cook for about 10 more minutes until the beans are warm. Serve with white bread.

My family didn't seem to mind my mess tonight. It was ok for a quick meal but not something I'd want every day.
