DIY brick grill

I'm looking into building my own brick grill because I'm sick of grills falling apart on me. The trouble I'm having is sourcing the grates and charcoal tray. I've found a couple of manufacturers in the UK, but to get the kit to the US costs almost as much in shipping as the kit itself. I find it hard to believe that no one here in the US makes these, but my google-fu is letting me down today. Any direction would be great!

For grates check out "expanded metal grating". Commonly available from hardware/construction stores. Any thoughts about size, shape, etc?

Check craigslist for a local welder, and see if they would build it for you.
