On a salmon filet tonight, I just used the last of the cedar grilling planks giving to me by my daughter-in-law (for which I'm sure she paid dearly) and now I'm ready to buy some more, which I plan to get from the lumber yard, HD, etc. My question is: Is there a particular type of cedar (southern, western red, etc) that is best for this use. Thanks in advance for the help.
By the way, the salmon along with a caesar salad was outstanding.

Big Dude...I have interviewed the King of Plank Cooking Ted Reader on the radio show a few times. He says to buy ONLY untreated wood!

You can find the archives at www.latalkradio.com/Greg.php Look for the November 11, 2008 episode! Lots of great plank info in that show!
