My mothers technique..

Cut okra into thin slices, but not so they bend.
Combine flour and cornmeal, (a little more of the flour) and add salt and pepper to taste. Put about a third of an inch of oil in an iron skillet.
Coat squash and or okra, then fry. Turn at least once as they brown. We've never been able to actually serve these as a meal as I tend to stand by the counter and eat them as they cool on a paper towel.
