He had surgery(Whipple Procedure) Thursday at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh by Dr. Gamblin. 10hrs of surgery!! So far...everything has gone extremely well. They were able to extract the tumor which was wrapped around a vein on the back side of the pancreas. The assisting attending surgeon who is a transplant specialist told my dad that he was in the best possible hands he could have been in with this Dr. Gamblin. He said his aggressiveness to extract that tumor for where it was and how intertwined it was becoming is really what saved the whole operation. He said the 80% of the surgeons who perform this procedure would have seen what was there and closed up shop and sent him home. He actually looked pretty good today for what he had been through. He's in a terrific amount of pain as you can imagine. The pathology on the tumor and lymph node will be back in 4-5 working days at which time they will stage it and determine the next course of action. It's not over, but a huge first hurdle seems to have been overcome...to this point. Fingers still crossed because he still has a long way to go. Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers. ;)

Great news Kev. Recovery takes some time. My brother had that same operation at the end of Aug and is still in recovery mode. Apparently. it's no walk in the park. My best wishes to your family.
