Yesterday I decided to make a batch of lump charcoal just using a 55 gallon drum instead of the retort method I tried last year (this is the method timroy uses). I started the fire with some boxes an twigs then added my oak and hickory chunks. It burn about 5 hours before I sealed the lid off and the four holes on the bottom of the drum. I was pouring down rain all day today until just a little while ago so I was able to see the results until then. Here are the pictures of yesterday’s charcoal making. I’ve also added links to last years pictures using the retort method.



I did a slab of ribs yesterday also.
