Seasoning Cast Iron

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
A) How hot can you bet your cooker?

B) Is your cooker big enough to handle it?

C) If big enough, but not able to get it over 350* or so, can you, can you put coals on 2 sides of it?

If neither of those is an option, an open fire will work fine.

I recently purchased a 40qt (yes 10 gallons!) cast iron Jambalaya pot that I need to season for the first time. It is obviously too big to fit in my oven so how can I season it properly to begin some low country cooking

Thanks,

Upside down over the burner of a turkey fryer?

That's what I would do. ;)

You can still do that with it upside down.
It won't over heat the bottom 1/3 while trying to get the top warm enough like having right side up would. Just coat the inside and outside with oil and put it on the cooker upside down.
