Rude Awakening
Was woken by a thud shortly after 4 this morning. Thought it was part of a dream but got up to check it out. Finally found this. My weather station indicated a 43 mph wind gust at about that time. At 5, while my wife and I were sitting in the living room at that same corner of the house, a 52 mph gust came through ~ We just cringed waiting for the crash.
I told my wife, when we moved in here, that tree was gonna be a problem. It’s dumped on us twice in 3 months. It missed the roof edge, took the light out of the socket without any damage to the socket it self, caught the bottom 2 panels of siding with minor damage, scraped the shingles the rest of the way down. Notice the track between the windows? We got lucky! She's comin' down in the Spring !!
Yeah, yeah … I know. The Christmas lights…

Thanks BFD. I call them winter lights butt..... lol. 1st encounter was on the front of the house ~ scraped the siding all the way down and would have taken the flag out if it was up. Smaller branch though. It is a BIG tree! OLD! I see it as more of a year or 2 of fire wood for the fire place.

Well, is the wood a good candidate to use for smoking?

You got lucky Bill. Glad there was no serious damage. Why wait until the spring to cut it down. Sounds like something I would be doing on the next nice day.

Dang son you did get lucky , yea the wind here was hard as well had 35 miles a hour to 45 here in Denmark SC . Had some oak limbs fall here while I was smoking the Brats and Burgers , I had my guest picking up the limbs and storing them in the garage for future use. Nice icicle lights by the way!!

Wow, you definitely need to get that tree down the next nice day you have. That could be very dangerous!
Question on the Christmas lights......do you still turn them on?
My pet peeve is not people leaving them on their house after Christmas but still turning them on at Valentine's or even Easter. Heck I've seen Christmas decorations on in July! LOL

No, they weren't damaged and no, I haven't turned them on since early January...Butt, there are people in these parts that still have them on. There's a house just down the street from me that has their tree lit right now.. #-o and my wife said she saw on on a couple miles from here the other night. I have no excuses for leaving them up this long ~ Been pretty mild round these parts for the most part.....
Boy, was this post a mistake!
I'll have to talk with our neighbor on the tree issue ~ It's on the boundary between our properties but I don't think they'll have a problems with it.
