Steve, I hope you know Bruce is being a funny guy here! Sometimes it's tough to tell when it's just words on paper! Bruce is the first guy out on the lawn with his telescope to watch heavenly bodies!!

Hey Joker, do you have a telescope? I used to belong to an astronomy club on LI back in the early eighties and we built our own scopes. I still have mine. How envolved are you in sky watching or astronomy?

Was a member of the Astronomy club in high school and had an El Cheapo telescope back then. Since, just been using telephoto lens' on 35 mm cameras for Lunar Eclipses. Living in Central Florida for many years kept me from persuing this hobby because of the high humidity, denser atmosphere and lack of dark sky (too damn many lights). Living up here, though, makes a big difference. My son turns 8 this month and Christmas is coming, so I've been looking...Probably something along the lines of a reflector with motor drive and computer control capability. You ever use SkyMap?
Anyway, I'm more into Space Science now and monitor alot of NASA's projects.

Bill I've been looking at some computer controled scopes too but the one's I've seen cost some bucks. www.meade.com/etx/etx_mak.html What have you been looking at? [/quote:2hn3v06h]
Steve,
I saw this one and a couple others that were in this price range but I have to wonder what the optics quality will be at these prices with motors, computer control, etc. added in ...

You know, it's amazing what you can do with a few prisms, a lens or 3, coatings..... It might even get you over that 45º problem you have there, Bruce

That Meade is way too cool. Only $279 sounds like a bargain. We're out in the country with hardly any lights near. Sounds like a Christmas gift for the wife.
