Jim: You must have misunderstood. Like I said (twice) in my post If your happy with your product by using gas or Kingsford fine. I have no problem with it.It's that I don't particularly like it.Again, That's just me.As far as Kingsford goes there is too many undesirable components.Clay, pot ash, tar, coal tar, borax, just to name a few.If your happy cooking with the stuff fine. It's just not for me. I personally like to cook with hardwood lump and wood. That's all I said.I have a few ribbons from "blind judging" contests. So what ? I try to put out a contestant product for my customers and I do it direct with lump and wood.I do not imply mine is better than yours. If your happy with doing things your way, By all means do them. It's just not for me.I don't know how to make this any more clear.

well Ludi, I don't think Minion or I ever said you don't make a fabulous product. In fact, all things being equal, all three of us would probably cook very much the same way.
I saw a post somewhere in which the president of Kingsford replied with a detailed letter stating what was in the briquettes and that they were all safe.
I've used lump and Kingsford, and Kingsford is fine with me. I've never had anyone complain about it. Was it Cowboy lump someone said they found a tin can in? What lump do you use?

It seems to be working pretty good for you these last two weeks.
I know... I told you I was getting back to work. Just a small slip.

ya know what stinks around here? We had one bbq oriented store that carried lump and various woods, and they closed!!! I don't want to pay shipping for charcoal. I guess a fried seafood area doesn't have a lot of smokers. I've seen lump in a couple of places, but not that brand.

Damn, How'd I miss that post up there?
My guess would be because you've gone Psycho the last two days.
And Larry... more like the Bates Motel than Motel 6.

Cap'n, Walmart here carries lump on a seasonal basis. Either Real Charcoal brand or Royal Oak (both made by Royal Oak). It gets pretty good reviews on the Whiz's web site.
|
Real Charcoal brand is also carried by Harris Teeter and some other food store chains.

Every time you burn wood it release 241 different compounds, they are not all safe.
The naked Whiz site is a good resource but his opinions are based on what works in his cooker (BGE). When you cook on a ceramic cooker because of design they can't handle any ash and they move very little air through them. This means briquettes and wood don't work in the cooker.
Take the same wood or briquettes and put them in a cooker that moves air they work just fine because of the volume of air that passes through the cooker.
To make judgement call on fuel based on how it works in one style of cooker simply limits the products you can safely once you understand the workings of the other pits.

I hate to disagree with you QnBrew (that has had bad consequences lately), but Royal Oak doesn't make Real Charcoal brand. They make Real Flavor brand that is sold at Walmart. They also make Big Green Egg, Grill Time, and Chuckwagon.
Real Charcoal brand is made by the Real Charcoal Company in Charlotte, NC.

True Jim, Any one that does not have a basic understanding of how there pit works has not a chance to produce a good product.Good point about him using only a BGE. Would you agree that larger chunks of lump will last longer and are more easy to manage as far as fire control is concerted with a direct or off set pit?

Damn there I go being wrong again. I hate when that happens. I remember the other time it did... No, it turned out I was actually right that time.
But you are right Raine. You would think I would know that, because that's the brand I use.
