Because ya can!

.... and to go extremely fast of course

Standing up on the top of the starting tower at New England
Dragway while 2 of them beasts stage up is absolutely AWESOME!
The whole flamage and burner pops while staging is a little
warming of the turbines and a LOT of show-off!
When them things leave the line and the afterburners ignite...
DAMN! it's loud!!!!!! and HOT

Them's are 1/4 mile times JB...they have a Peterbuilt tractor trailer
that runs there with 3 jet engines with 36,000 h.p. it runs 6.36 in
the 1/4 at 256 m.p.h. , with a salt flats top speed of 376 m.p.h.
The truck pulls 3G's during it's run...that's the same as the
Space Shuttle launching
It burns 120 gallons of fuel in one 1/4 mile run!

The jet engine racing/bon fire starting concept gives new meaning to the term: " Being put out in the pasture".

I'd hate to be the guy with the cigarette lighter that has to light the tail end of that hummer to get it started.
