The official start of Yankee grilling season!
What's cooking?
I'm doing a couple of butts for my sister and her friends who are visiting
in Ocean Isle. Hope I can get the good through the half a million bikers
and vacationers in town this weekend     .

Just switched Emeril off (Pigs, he was making fiddleheads!) to Rio Bravo
on Turner Classic Movies. Lots of great John Wayne/war movies on
this weekend...love that stuff.

Some of us Yankees Q all year round. Where like the postman, rain, sleet, or snow! Heck I invented cold weather Qing  it’s a little something I like to call just another excuse to get Jacked up, and besides I save $ on ice the snow banks make a great cooler. I’ll have to post the pics sometime of when we got 6 feet of snow in 2 days.
On a more serious note Take a minute this memorial day to remember our Veterans , “All gave some and some gave all.â€

2 butts going on the WSM in about an hour with beans going in there in the am. 2 slabs of loin back go on the RK tomorrow also. Still thinking about a chicken or 2 on the Weber kettle rotis.

Amen Witt. Yeah I love the pics some of you guys post of those smoker chugging away midst the snowbanks in winter.

I'd like to ask everyone to attend a Memorial Day event this Monday.
They are easy to find, just check the paper, there will be one near you.
It only takes an hour or so out of your day to remember those that
gave their lives so that we may live in freedom in the greatest
country in the world.

This "Yankee" cooks outside all year long too :!:
I haven't decided what to cook , maybe a couple slabs Sat. while i'm planting the garden.
I want to try Ddog's rub :!:

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I'm doing 2 butts Saturday into Sunday. I'll throw on a couple of fatties, gotta some steak tidbits for the grill and will do some chicken so I can try ddogs rub. I'm also marching in our local parade on Monday.

Jeff, please tell your dad how much we all appreciate him.

Nick, hold your head high.

I was getting ready to light the WSM and one hell of a thunderstorm
just blew up. If it ends soon, fire in the hole!!

Well I got 8 racks of Baby Back Ribs awaiting my attention Saturday evening in prep for the cook Sunday. Some of the firefighters came and cleaned the grill for me and cut extra oak for the side firebox , I am back to normal no more pain pills and muscle relaxants needed now , but they said nope , we will do things that you need done its a debt of honor for them, I couldnt say no. I am gonna do 4 Boston Butts for them in the near future. Thats all they said they wanted !!

I'm doing this:

http://www.harpersfield.com/events.shtml

Look at the bottom. Uncle Bubba and ZBQ are coming to help out. I figure 300-350 people. Temps 80-85 with mostly sun. Hauling the pit out Sunday at noon and finishing up around 8:00 pm Monday . $12.00 a plate for choice of two meats (Kielbasa, pulled pork, salmon) Pinto beans, slaw, bun, sauce.
For us, I've got some Slovaceks Texas Hot Links, Fried potatoes,Tri-tip, Sausage, taters, eggs and tortillas. Also, Red Bull and Kenya AA coffee! Sould be a good weekend. Nothin like cooking BBQ and getting paid!

ps. I'll bet she throws in some free wine! :!:

?????????????????????????????????????????

well the butts are done. Bark for breakfast. Overdone a little. Here's
a little advice for you guys.

1. Do not try to set the alarms on your Maverick when you are drunk.
Me and my neighbor were staggering around the yard singing
John Conlee's "Rose Colored Glasses" while I tried to set the temps.
Needless to say when I woke up the alarms weren't set.

2. When you are staggering drunk, make sure the tip of your pit
probe is not laying on your meat. I got up this morning and pulled the
probe out and it had rub on it!

Plenty of good pork in the middle though!

John Conlee. Now there is a name from the past! I remember seeing Mr. Conlee along with Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty back around 1980 at the Coliseum in Columbia, S.C. Great concert!

Does the world look rose colored this morning Captain?

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!
