This is the day we celebrate the arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem to honor the baby Jesus. It marks the end of the Christmas season. In New Orleans King's Day means replace the Christmas tree with all that is Purple, Green and Gold. Mardi Gras season has arrived.
One of the ways to celebrate this is with the King cake.
Today I decided to make a King cake here at home. I intended to make it a braided one but opted to take the easy way out and just roll it into the traditional oblong shape.
Our Christmas Tree before taking it down today.
The making of the King Cake
Ready to rise a bit and then into the oven.
Decorating will come later.......
Alright, so here it is finished! Just need to let the icing set a bit and it'll be ready to eat for dessert tonight.
I decided to keep it a lil simple.
The kids came over for dessert tonight and put a hurtin' on my King Cake. Lol..... Actually they each took some home with them.
BTW, there was a baby involved but I just put it on the side.
You can see the multi layers each with a cinnamon brown sugar and a lil butter between each layer. Moist and delicious!!!!! Oh, and I can't forget to mention that it was iced with a vanilla cream cheese icing and then colored sugars.
Here's what it looked like before adding the colored sugar.
