There are parts of N.O. area that are still severely stricken
from the storm...we all quickly forget that.

A gentleman from our church gave up his privately owned business
to go down there and help in the disaster clean-up back when it all
happened.... he stayed for 11 months and then came home to his
family....was home for a month and couldn't be here knowing the
help that is needed down there STILL...so he went back.

He was telling me stories of when he got there that they were
busting down doors to homes to find people still huddled and starving
to death like a third world country. He said they were still in such
shock that even though there was food around, they didn't know
enough to fend for themselves.... kinda weird to hear stories like
that in this day and age.

I know the main sector is pretty much back on track down there,
and I don't know what area from which...but I guess there are still
some spots that have it extremely rough.... granted I don't find
having computer access to Craigslist as being "too rough"... but
maybe that person was meaning goodwill torwards the less
fortunate.... but even still........would THEY have computer access
to read his efforts?

This very day there are still over 1,750 children unaccounted for
in that area from the storm....they were just loading people and
children as fast as they could on ANY truck, buses etc... to
evacuate.... and families got seperated... and there are still
over a thousand children LOST from their families.

with only a bit of that being true SJ the 3rd world country is a bunch of BS . i live bout 5mins from N.O. and there are more jobs than you can think of . people still looking for hand outs thats all that they put on TV . i love N.O. but for the most part the system has screwed it up .

i am sure your friends help down here had gone a long way for the less fortunate and i [smilie=a_bravo.gif] him for their help . but in now way is New Orleans a 3rd world country with people in there homes huddled on the floor in the dark .

Right now...yes there are tons of jobs, and I'm sure
right now there aren't huddled masses starving , but, I was
reffering to the week to 2 weeks or so after it all
happened that people were still in shock huddled, hiding
and starving. I can only go by this man's word and the
pictures....I wasn't there. But I do consider people in this day
and age not having eaten for days on end, hiding from human
contact literally in a state of shock and covered in God only
knows what not even trying to clean themselves....
3rd world...sorry.

But from his pictures I noticed some places 3-10 miles inland were much
worse then the direct coastal areas. Areas that were "run down" by
the surge/wave were destroyed, but the areas where the wave
dumped everything it was carrying seemed to look worse because
all the destruction it dumped when it slowed down.He had pictures of a
cement pier/boardwalk that was about 30 feet wide x 250-300
feet long and about 15-20 feet thick
(with the steel structure under it) about 9 miles inland
resting atop a couple homes with old growth trees about 4 feet
across , sheared off 6-10 from the ground. TONS of pictures
of things and people they just don't let get out on the news.

Again, no offense meant to ANYONE who survived that ordeal.
I was just commenting on was was told and shown to me in
pictures by a gentleman who's word I solemnly trust.
