Times are set in individual profiles only...it's not a master field!

That's true, but the master time is set in the "Admin Panel", right?
Right now, it's 5:14pm eastern daylight time for me...Is it only me??? But it reads 3:14pm...
Maybe Larry can help me...

I had this discussion with the Admin of the board...for whatever reason it has to be done in each person's profile...I've tried it through the admin but it doesn't work (really) !!

I have a suggestion. Try setting master time to GMT. Then hopefully every user can adjust their own profile accordingly.
I pointed out in this post that the board software doesn't seem to account for daylight savings time. So setting master time to GMT would make sense.
However, if the intitial master time was something other than GMT setting it to GMT now might screw up the timestamps of historical posts. If it was initially set to something other than GMT, maybe change it back to what it was. But, this might screw with timestamp of posts since it was changed.
Not sure. I think my initial suggestion is a better go forward approach. Every post will then have a GMT timestamp and will display correctly for every user as they adjust their profile twice a year if they are in a DST time zone.

I set my time for GMT - 4 hours and it is now reading the correct time. I'm on EST and my setting were originially for GMT - 6 hours. Don't understand why I'm adjusting 2 hours for a 1 hour time change but it's working correctly now.

It does when you're logged in but if you're just lurking, it's off by 2 hours...
Come on, Greg ~ You can fix it!!

How 'Globalization' works in the software that I specialize in is like this:
Master time zone is GMT. Every record that gets written to the database uses GMT for Created or Updated timestamps.
Every user specifies their own time zone. When the user accesses an application view, the application layer retrieves the correct records from the database. Then it looks up the users timezone and converts the GMT timestamps correctly for them then builds the webpage and sends it back to the user.
This bulletin board software seems very similar except it doesn't account for daylight savings time. That's why I think master time should be GMT.
Can you get support from MyFreeBulletinBoard Greg? Perhaps it would be better to ask them than to rely on my assumptions based on a different system.

that makes sense ... without a login, the server has no offset info from the user profile specified timezone so displayed times should default to system time (Master Time?)
that brings to mind a good point .... if the default is GMT like I suggested, lurkers are gonna see really wonky times ....
if they want to see correct times they have to log in and set their profile ... sounds ok to me
I guess the alternative is to set master time to the time zone closest to the bulk of users .... then it's kinda close for lurkers ... Greg whatcha think?

But, you know, most computers are adjusting their time to GMT, aren't they? I think that somehow, this board has Daylight Savings Time . and . Daylight Standard Time backward which would account for the now 2 hour difference that wasn't there before the time change....Whatcha think? [-o<

you can test your theory by changing your PC timezone then logging back in to the site and try a lurker session as well
I don't think your PC timezone setting has anything to do with the timestamps you see on the site Bill

Ok, so I changed my laptop to several timezones from around the globe
it had no impact on the timestamps displayed at the site either as a lurker or logged in
so I believe my assertion is correct ... the time zone on your PC has no bearing on the timestamps displayed by the site
