How and why can they charge more money, based on cicumstances that happened after they paid, for the gas thats in the tanks already ?????

Paid $3.05 for regular and $3.25 for premium.
But prices were all over the map. Saw it as high as $3.75 / $4.09.
Several stations around here were out.
