My neighbor Bill does this every year....a bushel of green peanuts
boiled in salt and cajun seasoning brine.....little bags go in the freezer
to be eaten all winter long. The little spanish peanuts were packed!

Jim you're making me reminisce my childhood in NC. I'll crawl a mile for a bag of those!

I knew you'd be the first to respond. Pretty much
just posted for you.

if anyone tries this, don't buy dry roasted peanuts. Green
means they haven't been dried.

Got transplanted chums from Louisiana who is very enthusiastic on those peanuts. Sure do taste good but prob not as good as them you got. You a fortunant fella indeed.

I had those the first time when my boss from Alabama intriduced them to us about 6 months ago.. We have to buy canned ones... Nice Score Capitano

couldn't be easier...Make sure you buy green peanuts, meaning
they haven't been dry roasted like most are sold. Might take
a little digging till you find em. Been plenty of Yankees that
tried it that way, boiled em for 10 hours and still couldn't get em soft.

Put some water in a pot and add copious amounts of salt, and any
other seasoning you want. Cajun seasoning is good. Crab seasoning
like Old Bay works too (not my favorite) . Garlic works real well.

Wash dem peanuts real good, get all the dirt off.
pick out any open or damaged shells.

Get yer turkey burner out and cover the peanuts with water
and the seasoning. Bring it to a boil, and simmer for an hour.
Stir it a few times...the peanut are different sizes, and the small
ones will cook faster...when the absorb water, they will sink to the bottom. After an hour, get you some kind of dipping device that will
drain the hot brine out, and start tasting. You want a soft shell that
will kind of bite apart, letting the nuts roll into your mouth. Don't anybody start making jokes about that last line.

When they start to get tender, turn off the heat and let em soak for a while as they cool down....then drain and eat or freeze/fridge.

When they dry roasted they are a nut. When they boiled, the are
a big pea. don't know where they got the name peanut from.

Yes, I'm in California.

We don't get green peanuts or Spanish peanuts.

Last time I had boiled peanuts was on a vacation in Florida.

I love those things!

I'm writing that recipe down even though I'll probably never get to make them.

Should I even try with roasted nuts? I could boil them for hours and hours if I could get that taste!

Mar, after they dry roasted, they won't absorb the
flavor in the brine.....you have to ask around, but
maybe someone could order some greenies for you.

Thanks!

JB sent me a site that sends them out already made, but I'm not sure how they'd travel.

I've been told that the green peanuts won't make the trip.

I'll just have to dream.

Found the green peanuts.....here we go!
Had them on the way back "up North" a few years back.
Now.....how to 'splain to my friends that they taste great. :?

I love buying a bag of them and share with people who have never had them. Ihey expect a crunchy peanut and their facial expression after taking their first bite is priceless! Its an aquired taste for sure.

On a different note, I tried Getta for the first time while up in Ohio this past weekend. I liked it!
