one of my favorite meals....took an old ham bone I
had laying around, and made stock.

Soaked the beans overnight,
then cooked em in the stock.

meanwhile, after dat bone cooled down, I pulled the meat off and threw
it in the pot

and served this with biscuits....

I know a lot of youse guys won't get thrilled about this but it's one
of my favorite comfort foods. I pour a little of my vinegar pepper
sauce on the beans, and wooowee!

Great minds think alike Cappy...I just picked up some beans today...instead of a ham bone..I'm tossing the hamhocks in.

Nice job Cappy

well you're probably like me...see the spring coming, decided to
do a little cold weather favorite before it gets too hot.

You hit the nail on the head...once the weather finally breaks.....if it ever does .....then that comfort food goes to the wayside....Isn't it time for your yearly hot dog thread?

Musta been something in the air. Made them last week..but with cornbread. Hard to beat that even as simple as it is

We have ham 'n beans (pintos) 'n cornbread (stone ground) about once a week. I love it. When I'm running low, I buy a ham on sale, cube it up, and bag it in individual-meal portions for the freezer. Cap'n, I add red pepper flakes. :D

There is nothing more special than the family ham, cooked up at Christmas and the leftovers last throughout the rest of the year. I have ham bones in the freezer that are a couple of years old. Every now and then I pull one out just for beans or greens or whatever I am cooking.

Three Things

A prisoner of love I am
Of Melody and country ham
These things my heart do greatly please
Also grits and some cheese.

Melody, she has me in her spell
Without her I count it time in hell
That takes my mind and self away
From Melody, whom I love both night and day

Yes I loved her both night and day
A year at least, my friends I say
And then some ham she served me once
With grits and cheese – A lovers lunch

Though it was Melody that I first chose
But of the three I now suppose
There is not one I hold most dear
I love them equally, I fear.

There is no difference in my heart
Of tasting, size or feeling part
Melody I love, I’m here to tell
But grits cheese and ham as well

In America the ham is born
As pretty as Melody each morn
Where grits and some cheese complete
A southern trinity, a lover’s feast

In truth and fairness to the three
I hold them dear all equally
Melody I love most faithfully
But also grits ham and cheese

At least one thing I am sure
My love for her (and them) is pure
In her favors I find true bliss is,
Grits and cheese and ham and kisses

If she would keep my affections steady
She would do wise to always ready
Of ham, a most delicious slice
Some cheese and grits, also nice
