I have a Harbor Freight 4X8 that bolts together and is pretty rugged. I am using it for my trailer, but should be a good match for a pit under 1300 lbs. cost about $150.

Central Tractor / Tractor supply has a decent one also for around $350. My local store has cheaper ones without the decking...

IMO its not worth playing around with junk when you can get new for that price....I can hardley buy the steel, axles and wheels to make one for that price...
