TheSmokingDude
Assistant Cook
Hi all,
This weekend, I needed to cold smoke a couple of bellies that I had curing all week. I bought a galvanized trash can, and had every intention of running the exhaust from a Traeger (I own 2 L'il Tex's), into the trash can and calling it a day.
Then, I decided to try something different. Since I have two L'il Tex's, I turned one into a cold smoker. I removed the pellet hopper/auger assembly, created a template to hold the dryer duct and BAM, I was done! It cost me a total of $30 in dryer duct, and my cold smoker worked like a charm.
The 30' of dryer duct might have been a little overkill, but 8' wasn't long enough to dissipate the heat. The cold smoker ran 2 degrees higher than it's idle temp, so this was a success!
Here's a shot of my FrankenTraeger:
Here are a few posts chronicling my adventures in bacon making (will elaborate more in the appropriate forum)
