Homemade smoker help
I've got a 100lb propane cylinder that I rescued from the scrap yard at a local propane shop. I'm leaning towards vertical since it will be cheaper and easier to set up. I don't know if I'll use a water pan or not. If I don't what distance do I want from the fire?

hang tight, Bill and some other guys will be here soon to help you.
This is over my head, but I like the vertical idea, not sure I've seen
anyone do that with a tank like that. I'm very interesting in hearing
more about this.

I think Bill has one that he can post pics of.
24" is a good distance.

Once I get this project underway, which will probably be late spring when its warmed up and I've finished school, I will definitely post pictures. I picked up the 24 inches and the whole vertical idea from the BDS, only I want doors and adjustable dampers on it. I'm just trying to work through any rough spots I can think of, and have a good plan layed out. Do you think there is any need for a heat diffuser?

Based on how well my uds cooks, I say no.
If I ever get around to building mine, I am going to try a heat sink just for grins.
There is a thread somewhere that my help. I will see if I can find it.

Looks like he has a firebox on the side of the tank. I'll have to give that a think, I can see that you can fit more grates in it. My only problem is I probably won't ever come close to filling it up. I suppose planning for the "what if" when I'm spending this much time and money to build it is the best way to go. Thinks for photo!

You always need a bigger pit..Unless you are Uncle Bubba...it's hard to get bigger than that.
