no sir it is my 66 GMC she be my lil baby who loves her daddy very much had her for so long she be family.LOL.
i am going to work on the smoker some today and take some better pics cause i really want some input from you experienced cookers here.

Wow..looks like a top o the line steel coffin to me. Course I am an old funeral salesman (pre need dept) we carried around a lot of photos similar to that...cept they had paint and nice rayon lining. In fact it sorta like a little bed in there. Now some of the guys did not mind taking a nap in there..but not me. I do not mess with haints  Now watching this puppy come to life is gonna be interesting. My imagination is running wild here. Hopefully it will emerge as an upright direct with the optional water pan.

Very Ingenius!
Have never seen this application in place, but looks like it should work well assuming the heat distributes evenly throughout.
Thanks for the update! Are you planning on this being a cook anything kinda smoker from whole Hog to Yardbird?
dj

yes sir ,several yardbirds, ribs, hams or up to about a hundred pound "upright" whole pig.this same design i have used before works really well.good heat control with good even heat in pit.the steam kettle works good for venison and wild turkey less work in keeping meat from drying out.there is no nasty water pan to clean.the fat droppings fall onto the heat shield and burn away.

walls started on pit.

Looking forward to continued build! Definitly A Most interesting design. Is there a particular reason for the various angles?
dj

i am building the smoker from scrap but i don't want it to look like i built it from scrap material.if i had full sheets of material to build from there would be way less weld seams.
but the basic design would be the same.

Ok do the little flapper gizmos control the heat and smoke coming up from the firebox on the bottom perhaps?
