Les and I cooked yesterday. Les made his own rub based on his loads of research this winter and it was awesome! We used Famous Dave's on the chicken as we both like that flavor. I don't have any chopped/pulled pics because we had guests to eat and they were all very hungry by the time we were ready! On the side, I made Southern Gooey Cake, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and they brought scalloped potatoes, french bread, strawberry angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream, along with strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Way too much food!!

Butt and half a shoulder we cut in half with Les's rub and mustard slather

I'm sorry, I don't know how to do the thumbnail pics.

This turned out the best of anything we've cooked yet. The fattie was disappointing but it was the sausage not the cooking. lol I think it's time to make our own sausage instead of buying the pre-spiced stuff.

That's some good looking chow.
What's this "Gooey cake" you speak of? Sounds good.

The recipe for the Southern Gooey Cake has been posted in the Appetizers/Sides forum.

Sorry, Greg, I never saw the screen shots. Bad Allie, I usually just log directly into the forum.

Thanks Oct97!! Those instructions were very, very helpful!!

Well, yeah I did......again, I apologize. I guess when I saw screencast, it never rang a bell that it would have any tutorials in it. OOPS, my bad!

I'll try to get better. I tried to listen to you last week on the radio but it wouldn't work for me either. Guess I better do some more research here.

I saw it after I asked the question Allie, thanks ;)

Greg Allie's recipe for Southern Gooey Cake has been posted in the sides section. Did you notice it? :P

Fantastic cook Les and Allie. That pork looks great. Wish we could have seen the inside of that. Keep up the good Qing and the pictures. Dont worry about Greg, he is a little cranky.

When we take the other piece of shoulder out of the freezer next weekend and cut it, I'll try to remember to take some pics of it. The fattie looked beautiful....what a smoke ring! Wish it had tasted as good!

Thanks to all!

One of our friends was asked to cook a hog for Les's step-nephew's graduation party in June. After trying a couple of sammies today, he asked Les if we'd help him! He had already asked us to help him with his big 4th of July bash so maybe one day we can make some money! lol

The sausage had way too much sage in it. The flavor of the sausage just didn't go well with the hickory smoke at all. I really think we need to just buy fresh pork and do our own.....or stick to meatloaf!
