Favorite "Road Food"

Since I travel ALOT, I get to eat a bunch on the road. I find that, after fifteen years of travel, I usually look for "comfort food" to pig out on (it's company money.) When I travel, there are several places that will always get me to pull over. In no particular order:

Cracker Barrel : nobody can beat the "country fried breakfast" for a breakfast belly bomb. The "greens and beans" plate with corn muffins is great for lunch and SHUT UP! about the meatloaf dinner!

Big Boy : they invented the Big Boy, and everybody since (inc. MacDonalds) has copied it. The BB Combo with Fries and slaw smothered in BB seasoned salt is the ultimate burger experience.

Culvers Butterburger: Midwest chain has the second best chain burgers. They have the BEST fries though, Crinkle cut and up to 5" long! they also have respectable chili and great ice cream. Kind of like a DQ on steroids. In Illinois, Wisconsin,Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, and other limited markets.

In-N-Out Burger : Cal. , Az, Nev., Mostly, a favorite of California transplants. Only offers burgers, fries, shakes. Always busy. Always good.

Smokey Bones/ Famous Daves : Hey some BBQ is better than no BBQ when you are on the road! Last week I arrived in Green Bay at 6:30 pm. I checked into the Hampton. It was 6 degrees and dark. I started out going down the road in search of something to eat. 1 mile and there's a Smokey Bones. Combo Plate, Brunswick Stew, and the fresh doughnuts. Made me feel warm all over!

Just my thoughts! Have Fun! Woodman

Good choice on the Cracker Barrel, love that place. Usually hit it for breakfast whenever I head south. Don't think I've had dinner there. Love there breakfast's. Screams comfort food.

Woody, you're a lucky guy to have Cracker Barrel, none of them here! I did go to a Smoky Bones upstate and it wasn't half bad. All we seem to have around here is steak houses and italian resturants. Where meand Rob had lunch the other day was a pretty good irish pub. Great place to watch a football game, have a couple of pints and they have a good selection of above average bar food. I'll take you there the next time you're in town! :smt062

Kleifelds in Willoughby, Ohio for breakfast!

Rocknies anytime...love the Terminator Sub!

Hell, anywhere that will take a credit card for me to expense it back to work, right?

Nick, where are you.? On the Island too?

Greg, Kliefelds used to be a regular lunch stop for us , being that my company is in Willoughby. Then, they closed down for 6 months and I haven't been back since. Good cheeseburgers though. They just opened a Johnny Mangoes across the street. Woody

Just this morning I went to Bob Evans for their sausage gravy breakfast.
Egg, cheese, biscuit, swimming in sausage gravy, and doused with Tabascp. One delicious heart attack on a plate!

You can't beat a Cracker Barrel on a cold snowy or rainy morning, sitting in front of the huge stone fireplace and eating country fried steak or fried catfish for breakfast!
