Not sure what's up, but my Maverick ET-73 seems to be on the fritz. At room temperature the food probe is about 5 degrees warmer than the smoker probe. When I stick the probes in ice water the temps are about the same degree of difference. In HOT water the temp difference is WAAAAAY off. The food probe reads almost 100 degrees higher than the smoker probe. I verified this with a Taylor digital oven thermometer. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Throw it out. Ge a non battery operated chicom instant read at Wally World. I been using the same one for 15 years at least. Give it a poke occasionally to figure out what is up. Anal retentive injuneers who worry about temps needs a hobby other than bbq..lol. Its an art..not a science.

To tell you the truth, the only thermometer I use, is on my smoker. I don't use probes or anything like that. It's done, when it's done. For that matter I have never over cooked anything either.
