This cook was for a benefit for my secretary who has cancer.

It all started great. 35 full packer briskets and 35 pork butts and 100lbs of sausage. Had 4 large pits going and a sweat setup.

Got all the pits up to temps and loaded up. Everything looking perfect, just perfect.

A storm blew through and we thought it was pretty cool standing in the carport watching it until the "It sounded like a freight train!!!" We literaly ran for our life as trees were snapping and stuff was flying!!!

12 trees went down, one of which took out my truck. I watched it fall and smash the back of my truck!!! While I was running for cover!!

When it wen through we just stood there shocked. And then we went to plan B. All of the meat had been on for 3 hours with full smoke and since power was out we elected to wrap everything and load it into the stick burners. The rotor pits were useless without power. we trudged in the rain for an hour getting everything wrapped and loaded.

BUT, we got all of the meat cooked and packed away so we can serve tomorrow.

I'm sure this is not the kind of update you guys wanted to see. I sure as helll didn't want it to turn out like this, but we made it happen. Apparently this storm tore up a lot of stuff in the area and I kept expecting to see a news crew show up. My buddy has a whole lot of work to get things back to normal and I'm sure I will pitch in.

Tomorrow we serve the plates. All 950 of them!!!!! We had to call off the sales because we were just plain out of room. All the meat is safely tucked away in hot boxes and it won't be the best of q but it will have to do given the circumstances.

Looks like you guys made the best of it. Great thing, to cook for a benefit like that. Good luck tomorrow 950 is a big herd of people to cook for!

A personal thanks from me to you for doing a benefit
for cancer....THANK YOU

Looked like one Hella afternoon
Sorry about your truck...
is it just me...or has anyone
else ever noticed that RED vehicles seemed to get
damaged more then any other color?

Keep your head up.....
You'll never be delt more then you can handle at one time
Good or Bad

Hope your day goes better serving :D

Holey smokes. I'm glad no one was injured. Man, that's a lot of meat and cookers. If you have time, I'd love to see the finished pics.

Sorry about the hit. Reminds me of Dover Downs last Oct, only less the trees which was a break for us.

Great BBQin.. Sorry about your truck... I bet yall are gettin hammered again today with storms.... Take cover Breaux!!!!

gods

Looks like the gods got to damn excited when you opened the lid to snap the pic! That meat looked incredible! Would love to see the finished product. Somehow you will be repaid for (trying to) doing such a good thing! and again good to see no injuries. db

Oh ya, and as for the loss of power:

Rhymes with "renerator" :D

At first I thought it was the aftermath of a really good party!

Glad to see no one got hurt. Great pics and you'll be able to share the story the rest of your life!

That's just plain amazing. As long as it drives okay, the truck is a great conversation starter. Way to stay on task.

(That could have been really awful.)

Holly cow! Sorry about your truck but happy everyone is OK. That shot of you with your feet up relaxing then the shots of the destruction is incredible. It came so quick. Also, let me say thank you for doing what your doing for the fight against cancer. It seems we are all effected by it one way or another be it through a family member, friend or co-worker so thank you again for all your doing.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. We got all the meat to the american legion hall and plated 1030 plates. There were 16 of us and I kept the assembly line going until we ran out. The helpers actually liked the Q even though I thought it was way below par.

I didn't get any pics but they are going to e-mail me some so I'll post them up when I get them.(I was too busy!)

Again thanks!! The look on her face said it all. She was in shock. I don't know what we cleared but the "Accountant" said it cost us $1.50 per plate with all the donations we recieved so she will get a good bump in handling expenses.
