A coworker has a wild hog problem on his property. He's planning on shooting them and wants me to smoke one for him. Is wild hog any good? Is it good smoked? Any suggestions on which cut of meat to use?

Thanks

Thank you for the introduction Mr. Griff, and to all for the warm welcome.
Please be seated.

Wild hog is good.

Thanks for coming.

it may have a slightly different taste...depends on what it's been
eating. The last 2 I did were foraging on a farm and we're eating
corn and acorns....it almost tasted domestic.

Other hogs may have a stronger gamey flavor, but it's still pork.

Only thing to watch out for is overcooking...in most but not all cases,
your basic wild hog will be leaner than most domestic pigs. Over the last 20 to 30 years, domestic pigs are being bred leaner, so the difference isn't
as much of a concern, but do be careful you don't overcook and dry out
your wild one.

I smoke one for the fishing get together and added to pork butts to it at the end when pulling it and mixing. I then did as suggested by BBQ central Authority, Reheated it in apple juice and Wolfe rub bold... IT Was awesome.... So it is good, but might need to be mixed... Oh, the one I did was a baby too.. so that might be why it was lean... It's free... right? Give it a shot!!!!
