WSM Temps Question

Whenever I open the WSM to wrap with foil or check a temp or something lately it seems like my temp spikes pretty high after I put the lid back on. Any ideas why?

Gomer before you take the lid off shut the bottom vents. It should keep your temps from spiking. With the lid off and the bottom vents open it's sucking too much air thus fanning the flames below

I don't seem to get large fluctuations in temperature from opening the door like that..

Leave it open for a few minutes.
Works every time for me to get the temps up.
