Soaking chunks doesn't help...it would take a LONG time for it to soak through...if you soaked for 24hrs and then cut the chunk open you'd be surprised how much water DIDN'T penetrate!

What are you cooking on...if it's a WSM or another "tight" type of cooker..I wouldn't soak...
I don't see much benifit to soaking...thus I don't do it..hope this helps.
Properly aged wood chunks will not absorb the water. Greg is right :? ... do a test and soak a chunk, then cut it in half. Only a very small amount of the outside wood will be moist.
