How bout a mini drum then, ya can get em in lots a sizes, so ya could build it ta fit yer space.

Still...$400. I'd rather see if I can get something used (Craigslist BBQ) or something smaller that can be used as a smoker.

Lots of folks start out with a Brinkman from Lowes. They are cheap enough.

You have been given good advice already.

An 18" wsm is all the smoker you will need until the bigger bug bites you.

Seems they don't have Brinkman's here at Lowe's. They just entered Canada (late) and their product lineup is different.

Sounds like the 30 gallon drum conversion is for me.

It's fool proof. I load up the charcoal using The Minion Method and it burns all night holding temps with no fiddling around.
