My dad used to put a sugar cure and cold smoke turkeys in an old round top refrigerator with the top gasket cut out. smoke was piped in from an old wood stove much like the one you see in those pictures. He also smoked fish in it getting smoke from an electric skillet and wood chips.
btw.. those were the BEST smoked turkeys you would ever eat.
