I have four packages of casing I’ve had since 12/12/2003. They have been in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. Three have been opened and one has not. I opened the opened plastic jar of casing and it smells pretty bad. Casing don’t smell good any way so I’m not sure if they are bad or not. I’ll probably just throw these away and order new.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

I would give them a soak and see what was what. I'm lucky that I can just walk to the store and snag a carton. There left over from 2003? Dude, ya got to make more sausage! ;)

For as fairly cheap as casings are..I'd hate to lose a whole batch of sausage if they turned out to be bad..I'd toss em and replace ..My .02 cents...

If if smells like something dead and rotten throw it out. If it just smells like a pig its ok.
