How long to keep casings?

I have four packages of casing I’ve had since 12/12/2003. They have been in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. Three have been opened and one has not. I opened the opened plastic jar of casing and it smells pretty bad. Casing don’t smell good any way so I’m not sure if they are bad or not. I’ll probably just throw these away and order new.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Were they packed in salt? They are suppose to last indefintly when packed in salt. Them beef rounds stink to holy hell anyway.

I poured table salt in the plastic jar after using those casings. I believe the other open bags had salt poured over them also.

I would give them a soak and see what was what. I'm lucky that I can just walk to the store and snag a carton. There left over from 2003? Dude, ya got to make more sausage!

For as fairly cheap as casings are..I'd hate to lose a whole batch of sausage if they turned out to be bad..I'd toss em and replace ..My .02 cents...
