looking for my 1st smoker

Hello

I am looking for my 1st smoker. I think I want a Big Green Egg (Large) or Primo Grill (JR or XL Oval). Just looking around to make sure that is what I want. I have a Weber gas grill for quick grilling and it works great. I would welcome suggestions for more experience smokers. Thank you

Re: looking for my 1st smoker

Welcome.

How much $$$ are you willing to spend?

Do you want a real smoker, or do you want a smoker/grill such as the Primo or Egg?

BOB

22.5 WSM and go on vacation with the money you saved. That is if what you are looking for is a smoker.

18 or 22.5 WSM and you'll never regret it.

Dont think you could go wrong with the WSM. I would get the big one. I try to cook ribs on a small bullet and it drives me crazy cuz they are too long to lay down on there. Surely the big one would not suffer from such evil nonsense.

Re: looking for my 1st smoker

Lots of great choices. At given price points, especially towards the bottom, a few of them are rather obvious bests.

A lot depends on what you want to do, and what you already know you want.

If you've decided on a do-it-all ceramic, you've limited the field to good choices. If you want something else, maybe we should expand the search.

So...

Will you want to do any grilling on your new smoker? Or, smoke only?
How many people do you cook for, usually?
How many people do you want to be able to cook for when you entertain?
How much are you willing to spend?
What about weather? Will you be cooking in the snow?

Re: looking for my 1st smoker

All good points IMO.
Comes down to price.
I own a Primo XL and I know it will be the last grill / smoker I ever buy.

WSM is what?? A few hundred bucks??? XL with SS cart is about $1500.00

I love my XL.
Unbelievable results in a ceramic. You have no idea.
