Help with flame

Hello,
New to the group, have been smoking for a while.
I recently started having my meats turn greyish black early in the smoking time. I believe my temps are okay but have heard that maybe the flame is not clear and hot enough. Any thoughts and how to correct?

I know its not amazing option but I use a Char broil propane box.
