First Comp!

Hello Everyone, I am from Springfield, Missouri. I have been cooking for about 10 years, but did my first comp this past weekend at Rockin Ribs in Springfield. Scores were all over the place but, heck, if I didn't have the most fun since my honeymoon posting.php?mode=post&f=34# . I am cooking on a Modified Char-Broil American Gourmet Deluxe, and I am in the process of building my own cooker, out of a 500 gal fuel tank and an old wood stove. I hope to have that done by the end of the summer.

I am loving the Forum so far. I found out about it from BBQ Central Radio Show!

Looking forward to reading and learning as much as I can from you all.

Re: First Comp!

I have an Ashley stove from the living room of my parents house. I can fill it full with about 5 sticks of stove 18 in wood. I hope that it would be enough? If not I could supplement heat in the chamber itself. How did you connect it to your tank? My thought is running all heat from the stove pipe exaust.

Re: First Comp!

That sounds bigger than mine.. I cut a hole in the top and made a "chute" out of 1/8 inch plate. welded it all together, however, the opening might not be big enough either... I have a prob keeping the fire lit...it either gets to hot or smothers out... gonna redesign the whole thing this summer.

What Buzz said. Sounds like you are fully addicted to the comp bbq hobby. I am on step 42 of the 12 step recovery program. Hold on to your ass pocket and your liver..and best of fortunes in the endeavor.
