Welcome! Start the cooker on low settings 180 to 200 degree settings. Leave it there for the first couple of hours, this is where you will get the smoke flavor. Then raise the pit temp up to your cooking temp 225 to 250.
You will find if you start out at 225 to 250 range the cooker will produce very little smoke.

Well wouldnt ya know it rained in there and got the pellets wet..so he just shut the lid and pushed it into the garage. About 2 weeks later he decided to peek inside and found the rabbit pellets had fused themselves together similar to Portland Cement. Had to send it back to the factory to get the pellet goo chisled outta there. Guess the moral of he story is...keep an eye on the weather..close the lid when you get done cooking...and use the devil's urine in strict moderation for medicinal purposes only

WELCOME to BBQ CENTRAL Uncle Buck!

Your screen name provokes images of John Candy in the movie
"Uncle Buck" flipping a coin to the principal of the school and
telling her to use the money to have a rat chew the mole off
her face!

And yes, get out that digital camera, put in some new lithium batteries and start taking pics. Pics of prep, rubs, injections, beer, what ever your doing with your Q.

Oh yea, lets see a picture of that pit you have there.
