Just bought bags of Rancher Charcoal for $1 a bag

At the local Home Depot here in Woodbridge, VA I saw the last of the Rancher [I guess] so I grabbed them up like I have been doing all summer.

When they rang up it was $1 a bag. I double checked with the cashier and the price was correct.

I'm calling my brother in Fredericksburg, Va to see if they have some in his store just 30 miles away. I'll have him buy all they have or I'll go down and get it.

This may not be in every store but at $2.99 it's a steal and at retail of $4.95 it's $3 cheapre then Kingsford and better IMHO.

peace

I hear people are even starting to use it in their ceramic cookers. Low ash compared to KF and even "some" lump.

I like the stuff and have to opposite opinion. I think it is way cleaner to burn then K coals.

Read the bag of what's in K colas and what's in Rancher. There can't be any fuel taste when there is none in the Rancher coals.

As long as I can find them I will use Rancher.

peace

I think I see the story board for a Kingsford commercial starting to take shape. :P

I will never buy KF again...or until I can't find the Rancher anymore and I am forced back to it. Perhaps the off taste is the fact the you have become accustomed to the chemical burn off in your food that KF does to it...Rancher is 100% all natural hardwood...

I mixed Rancher & KF for an overnight butt cook.
There was the "funny" smell again.

A woman next to me judging at Dover on Sat said she tasted lighter fluid in an entry. I didn't taste anything like that. I wonder if different people pick up flavors that others can not. Apparently so.
The Rancher may seem ok to the user and not so good to the judges????

Ive got nothing but good things to say about Rancher.. Nobody Ive cooked for has come up with anything like 'tastes like lighterfluid' or anything like that...

different Strokes for different Folks I suppose. Supposedly Rancher is going to be carried by HD but at a slightly higher price... more comperable to KF brand. I use 2x as much KF as Rancher for the same burn. Not a good thing IMO
