Description:
My Grandfather says this was his favorite desert that my Grandma made. Every Christmas he would get a war cake wrapped simply in aluminum foil and a red ribbon. When we were moving Grandpa's stuff out of the house, I found the recipe for the War Cake on the window sill behind the love seat! Enjoy! The story on the name: It was a popular cake during the war years because it didn't call for expensive milk, eggs, or butter!

Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
2 TBS cinnamon
4 TBS crisco
1/2 large box of raisins (boil in water 5 min. & cool)
3 cups flour
1 heaping tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
- preheat oven to 400 degrees
- drain raisins and put in mixing bowl
- add all other ingredients
- mix well
- grease two loaf pans
- pour batter into loaf pans
- bake, uncovered, at 400 for 10 minutes
- turn oven down to 300 and bake for 1 hour

Number Of Servings:Depends on the number of people and how hungry they are!

Preparation Time:I never really time this stuff because I am usually doing 12 other things at the same time!
