Water or Sand in the WSM Water Pan?

Do you put sand or water in the water pan?

I use a non glazed terre cotta saucer for a flower pot. I think they are 14" for the 18" WSM. I just took my water pan to Home Depot and found one that would fit.

I use a guru so I only need strips of aluminum foil in my pan!

I tried tat a few years years ago, mine broke. But that was in a ECB.

I use water in the pan. I tried sand once and the ribs had an awful after taste. I went back to using water in it and it works fine for me.

Lew ... a litter box is NOT filled with sand !

I use sand... the playground kind. wrap 5-6 layers of foil over it = easy cleanup.
