I finally made a good one..

started with a couple pounds of beef short ribs and a pound or so
of beef flanken ribs (cut crosswise with the marrow exposed).

Put em in a stock pot with evoo and red wine, browned em up good,
then added water and simmered for an hour. Removed the bones,
cut the meat off and put back in with a head of garlic halved, a little
green pepper and black pepper...simmered into a great tasting beef stock.

added bite sized red potatos (raw) and cooked till just tender, then added
2 cans of french onion soup, bottle of V8 juice, some dried sweet corn
I got from up north (Copes), a bag of frozen mixed vegetables including okra (important), bag of frozen corn, half a stick of butter, healthy splash of woos and Franks hot sauce, bit of oregano and celery salt, just a hair of fennel seed and salt to taste.

looking good now

Looks mighty good Cappy. Thanks for sharing. Hope you had some good unsweet Texas syle cornbread to go with. ;)

Before I go in Bass Pro, I take all the credit cards out of my
wallet. I'm lucky to have one in this area, actually just
a couple miles from my place.

Wish we had a Trader Joe's.....would like to get some of that
cheap wine.

My wife allows me to go once a month if I'm lucky, your grub looks good by the way!!

I can't imagine anybody getting weak in the knees over the Bass Pro Shoppe. I aint neva seen anything in the place I couldn't go buy half the price they was charging somewhere else. It just a tourista trap in my book. I realize other opinyawns may vary:) I had also druther be gut shot than to have to go to Cabelas..but will admit they have a few things that interest me mo than the other place. I quit fishing cuz it too much trouble. Figger for all the edible fish I have caught in my life..the price of the meat would have be about 500 bucks an oz. I never did get too interested in the catch and relase non sense. Whuts up with that?
