Temps between grates?

Is there an "average" temp. difference between the grates on a WSM?

wouldnt think there would be that much of a diff. best way to tell is to get 2 digital thermometers...can never have enough of em ...I have about 6 lol

yeah me also ... I only have 6 of them because lowes has some weird clearance thing on them for 1.47 normally 19.99 so I bought them all LoL

The upper rack will get up to 10 degrees hotter.

There is initially about a 15ļ difference between the top grate and the dome and the top grate and the bottom grate. However, after your meat warms up the temps equal out and there is no difference. This usually takes about an hour or so to even out. In otherwords, if you cook 1-8lb butt on each grate they will basically finish together.
