I was told that if you pluck the first buds the plant will be healthier. But then again, I dond do that. Thats just what I was told.

Brian, I'm having the same problems with my jap plants as well. I have peppers but the plants are quite small. My father told me it's because it hasn't been very warm (except the past week or so). Keep them watered now and they should take off. It's funny because my tomato and squash plants are huge already!
