As many of you knew we were in the fight of our life with our beloved Golden Retriever Buddy who had lung cancer. He initially responded extremely well to chemotherapy but the cancer spread to his eyes and we had to put him to sleep this past March. It was the hardest thing we had to do but it was the right thing and Buddy was surrounded by family when he was very peacefully laid to rest.

Now for the good news. On June 1st of this year we welcomed a new bundle of joy into our homes.

Meet Rudy

He is full of energy and keeps me up and on the go. He loves to run and get into things he shouldn't so we always have to keep him in our sight which isn't too hard since he loves to hang around people. Here is a recent picture of Rudy in full stride.

Out of love for the breed we also decided to get into a rescue program called GRIN (Golden Retrievers In Need). GRIN helps save Golden Retrievers that have been abandoned by their owners. A couple of weeks ago we got a call from GRIN asking us if we could foster a 6 month old pup named Silvio. Silvio had been abused and abandoned by his previous owner which believe it or not was a breeder. Because of this he was very timid around people but had a dominant personality with dogs. We agreed to take him in and the first few days were a little bit of a challenge with each dog battling for dominance in the house. Silvio ultimately took charge which made our lives much easier because Rudy has now settled down considerably now that they have bonded. We took both dogs last week to a barbecue and Silvio made huge strides that day in getting over a lot of his fears of people. He got lots of attention and hugs and is now coming around nicely.

He and Rudy are now best friends and spend a lot of time playing together and tiring each other out which is great because a tired dog is a well behaved dog.

Silvio has settled very nicely into our house. He is a bit of a couch potato as you can see here.

Anyway to end the story we decided yesterday to permanently adopt Silvio so now Double D's Barbecue stands for more than just Dallas and Danny we are also Double Dogs.

Both Rudy and Silvio will be accompanying us on all Barbecue competitions. Please stop by this week at Madison, IN if you can.

Congrats on the new additions Dallas!!! That pic of the Silvio on the couch is priceless!!
