I have Henkels, expensive, but I like them.

Steve
They are a good choice, nice balance and the grip is non-slip.
Get a good steel and use it often.

For the money, you can't do better than Forschners, Steve.

Steve,
Check out Amazon. I got a great deal on a Wustof Grand Prix knife set around this time last year. They were $125 for the set. I've had them a year so far and use the steel before every use. They are still as sharp as they were the day I got them. I am extremely happy with them.

Go to your local butcher/grocers meat dept.
Ask. Odds are, they are using Forschners.

I have many differing brands in my collection (60+)

Across the board Forschners are the best bang for the buck.

Stamped steel done RIGHT.

For most tasks this all you'll ever need.

For anything heavier, get a cleaver and a rubber hammer!!

Bingo! I bought a set of Henkles from Amazon and the bargain priced sets do not compare with the expensive sets. The Forschner's however,
do, for the same money as the bargain Wusts/Henks. Like the WSM, I've never heard anyone be disappointed by the Forschners.

One thing for sure... If you buy Henckels, you have to make sure the logo has the two people on it. Not just one person. They are two different companies. The one with one person on the logo is owned by a brother or cousin... or something. Nowhere near the same quality.

Thanks for the info QnBrew. I didn't realize that there was a Granton Co. I might just check them out on my next purcahse. Pricing looks good also.

Remember to use that steel frequently. Forschner's don't really hold an edge all that well so frequent steeling will go a long way to maintaining your blades. The slightly softer alloy they use is easier to sharpen, however, when sharpening is required.
